  • 3. What are the system priorities of my UCLEAR?
     

    UCLEAR Digital controller units have the following priorities:

    1.Phone
    2.Intercom
    3.Music

    For example, if a call comes in while listening to music, the call will take priority. When the call is terminated, the music will automatically come back on. You can switch from music to intercom or vice versa.

    Note: For best results, it is recommended to try to use your phone as a main connection for Phone calls, Music and GPS functions.

  • 4. What affects the wind noise suppression?
     

    Air pressure affects sound waves, so how your helmet fits will affect the performance, as will the presence or absence of a bike windshield. Well fitting, full faced helmets will always enhance performance.

    Experiment with directional placement of speakers to achieve ideal sound (Note, both speakers must always be facing in the same direction and symmetrical to each other for best sound).

    Most certified Bluetooth devices should work, But we recommend for best performance to use a single unit such as your phone for Phone calls, Music and GPS.

  • 7. Will my intercom time out?
     

    No, after intercom is started it will not auto timeout. You need to terminate it manually. However, the unit will auto power off in two hours if intercom and all other Bluetooth devices are disconnected.

    If intercom has not been in use before, the unit will auto power off in 10 minutes if all Bluetooth devices are disconnected.

  • 8. If I am in intercom mode when I power down, will UCLEAR remain in intercom mode when powered back up?
     

    Intercom will not stay connected one the unit is powered off.

    Once the UCLEAR controller unit is powered back on, you will need to press and hold the up button for two seconds to engage the intercom mode once again.

  • 10. Is private intercom possible with all members of a riding group using UCLEAR?
     

    Private intercom is currently only available to the HBC200 series and AMP series.

    Private intercom can only work with the user directly connected to you. For example, you have A, B, C, D connected, AB and CD can have private intercom but AC or AD cannot. See your manual for more detail.

  • 11. How do I activate voice commands or hands free answering?
     

    You can pick up calls hands free by saying “hello” or “pick up”.

    To utilize more advanced voice features, it depends on the capabilities of your paired device. For example, if you have voice activation software (i.e. Siri, Google now, Nuance, Dragon or Vlingo) on your device, you can activate these by pressing the "Answer" and "Down" buttons on your UCLEAR control unit.

  • 12. I’m using GPS app on my phone, and it’s not interrupting my intercom…why?
     

    The GPS application actually streams messages through A2DP Bluetooth profile. A2DP has a lower priority than the intercom.

  • 13. Will UCLEAR work with my helmet?
     

    You can install UCLEAR Digital products on just about any helmet (Full face, open face, modular or 1/2 helmets). As long there is space for the speakers or ear buds. In the case of fuller helmets, there should be a cutout, and in the case of half helmets, we offer an insert that wraps around the straps.

    *UCLEAR Digital does NOT recommend modifying your helmet.

    Whatever your helmet type, it’s through Adaptive Beam Forming technology that UCLEAR is able to suppress environment noise such as wind, engine and street noise, while picking up on your voice. Boomless is just better!

    YES! With our latest firmware update you can pair with other brand Bluetooth communication systems. The HBC100 Plus series, HBC200 series and AMP series are now cross brand compatible, so you can connect to other brand helmet communication systems. UCLEAR plays well with others!

    Note: With the amount of technology needed to play with other brands, cross brand connections will limit functionality.

  • 15. Which UCLEAR is right for me?
     

    The difference between UCLEAR products has to do with intercom range and the number of users, as well as mounting options that come in the package.

    So to determine which option is right for you, first determine how many people you want to connect with and what intercom range you need.

    The HBC100: series offers 2 person intercom, has a range of 30 feet and is meant for rider to rider to rider to passenger communication. This series is NOT firmware upgradable.

    The HBC100 PLUS: series offers 4 person intercom and has a range of .30 miles between users. This series is firmware upgradable.

    The HBC200 series: can connect 10 or more people and offers up to .40 miles between 10+ users. This series is firmware upgradable.

    UCLEAR Digital’s advanced digital microphone array technology eliminates the need for a close-talk microphone.     Full Duplex means that instead of traditional two-way walkie-talkie communication where only one person can talk at any given time, conversation back and forth between several people can happen at the same time.   • 20. What UCLEAR units are compatible with each other?
     

    1. The HBC100 can only connect to another HBC100.

    2. The HBC100 Plus is compatible with other HBC100 Plus units, HBC200 units and HBC200 HD units.

    3. AMP Series units can connect to all AMP series units, HBC 100 PLUS, HBC200 and HBC200 HD units.
    * Please note that the units must be on the same firmware version in order to pair correctly.

  • 21. I received my new AMP system, and no sound is coming through the speakers..
     

    If you are not receiving any sound from the speakers when they are plugged in, the speaker plug has not made a fully seated connection with the controller. When looking at the speaker plug, you will notice there are 3 "ribs" on the speaker plug. Please ensure that all 3 ribs on the speaker plug are fully inserted inside the controller. None of the ribs should be visible from any side of the controller (including the underside of the controller). Once the speakers are fully inserted, turn the controller on/off and listen for the startup "beeps" that come through the speakers.

    Note: A little force may be required as the rubber on the speaker plug is stiff from the factory. The reason for this is because the seated connection makes a weather resistant seal so no moisture can get inside the controller. Over time, the speaker plug will be easier to insert while still keeping out all forms of moisture.

  • 22. My UClear unit won't turn on, charge, or update...
     

    This typically means the device is stuck in "update mode" (it thinks its plugged into a computer about to receive an update). To take the UClear out of update mode, all you need to do is connect it to the charger and press all three buttons down for 2-5 seconds. After you release the buttons, the light should turn on indicating that it is charging.

  • 23. My computer says the firmware update contains a virus!
     

    This is a common issue we see with programs such as Norton, AVG, etc. If your computer gives you a warning about the firmware having a virus, trojan, etc., then you will need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software until the update is finished. As long as you downloaded the update from www.ucleardigital.com/firmware then it is 100% safe!

  • 24. My controllers won't go into music sharing mode
     

    First, make sure you either have the HBC200, HBC200 HD, AMP Plus, or AMP Pro model as this feature is only available on those models. You also need to make sure the controllers are paired for intercom beforehand, and that unit #1 is paired to a cellphone/device for music.

    The instructions state that in order to enter music sharing pairing mode, you need to double-tap the "power" and either the down or up buttons together (depending on which controller it is; #1 or #2 respectively). However, sometimes pressing these buttons twice does not get recognized by the controller. Instead, try pressing or "spamming" the correct combination of buttons 5-10 times in quick succession, or until the light starts flashing blue & red. Once the light is flashing blue & red on both controllers, they will automatically pair for music sharing.

  • 1. I get no sound from my UCLEAR Unit?
     

    Once your speakers are plugged in, you will be able to hear the start up and shut down chirps. Even with blown speakers. IF you DO NOT hear anything, please double check and make sure the three lines(or ribs) on the USB speaker port are completely inserted into the control unit.

  • 2. I recently updated my units and now nothing works.
     

    After an update it is recommended to redo all your pairings on your Uclear Digital controllers. Some settings have changed with the update and to have everything working as ijntended, you will need to redo your pairings.

  • 3. My sound defaults to the iPhone speaker and not the UCLEAR Head Set.
     

    On your iPhone, Go to Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> Call Audio Routing, Change the setting to "Head Set". If this doesn't fix it, please delete all non-needed saved Bluetooth connections and reset your phone. Then re-pair to the iPhone to the UCLEAR Digital Unit.

    Before you open and install the latest UCLEAR Firmware update, Disable any Anti-Virus protection installed on your computer.

  • 5. How do I pair my UCLEAR Digital unit with my GPS?
     

    Try these tips to get your GPS to pair with the UCLEAR unit:

    1. Shut down both the UCLEAR and GPS.

    2. Restart the devices and re-pair the UCLEAR to the GPS.

    3. Once paired, shutdown and restart both devices.You may also try deleting all the Bluetooth records from the GPS, restart then re-try pairing again.

    4. Finally, assume the GPS has been successfully paired to the phone and UCLEAR unit. If all these devices are powered up at the same time, it may cause confusion to the GPS. Your UCLEAR should be the last device to be turned on, then let it autoconnect to the GPS.

  • 6. How do I get better sound?
     

    Sound quality and voice activation features are dependent on the capabilities of you master pairing device (e.g. mobile phone). For the best sound quality Pair the UCLEAR Unit Directly to the source (Cell Phone is preferred). After Doing so adjust the volume levels of your master pairing device to 70% or until you achieve the best results.

  • 7. I can’t hear any bass, and the music is quiet or tingy. How can I fix this?
     

    When music sounds tinny, this is often due to streaming music through Hands Free Profile (HFP) instead of Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

    It may also be due to the quality of music that you may be using. Try to assure that the music quality is at 128/KBPS (CD quality) or better for best results.

    Note: Pandora/Spotify does not always stream CD quality music.

  • 8. How do I pair my UCLEAR Digital controller to my phone or device?
     

    The exact steps depend on your mobile phone or device, but generally, you should ensure the Bluetooth feature has been activated on your device.

    1. Turn your UCLEAR control unit on.
    2. Press the Up and Down buttons on your UCLEAR unit to enable pairing.
    3. You should see your UCLEAR come up on your device as an option and be able to select it on the device. If your device asks for a passcode, it is 0000.

    1. Your unit comes with some charge, BUT it is best to fully charge it upon taking it out of the box before use.
    2. Check the box for missing items and make sure all included items are accounted for. If items are missing, please contact us at 855-248-9283.
    3. Visit ucleardigital.com/firmware to ensure your UCLEAR controller unit has the most up to date firmware to take advantage of feature enhancements. (Note this is not applicable to the HBC100 series.)

    UCLEAR products come with a variety of options, and we also offer additional mounting accessories for purchase at UCLEARDigital.com. Options include a removable clip with a rubber grip that is secured on the helmet shell between the padding. The second, a more permanent option is a bracket with 3M double sided tape that is adhered to the outside of the helmet.

  • 12. How do I position the speakers in my helmet?
     

    The speakers can be positioned on either side of the cheek pads. If you have trouble hearing, you may want to bring the speaker closer to the ear. The microphones are able to pick up on your voice even if they are behind the padding of your helmet, as long as the fabric is breathable. Note that ABF technology will not transmit through solid, non-breathable materials such as plastic, metal and leather.

    For the best audio quality, the left and right microphones have to be installed symmetrically in your helmet and directly over your ear, with the microphones pointing out at the same angle. The microphones work in tandem, and if they are not aligned properly they will not pick up on your voice as intended by our system.

  • 13. How can I set the volume on my UCLEAR controller unit?
     

    You can set the volume by pushing the up/down buttons to increase/decrease the volume. You must push and release for each incremental change in volume. When the volume level is set, the controller unit will store that volume setting, so the next time the device is connected it will automatically start at that associated volume level.

    UCLEAR also uses Automatic Speaker Loudness for communication. This feature increases the volume depending on the environment noise level. However, you can still adjust the volume manually.

  • 14. How do I correctly install the permanent helmet mount?
     

    *The helmet mount is best installed at room temperature. Please let the adhesive set for 5 minutes after installation for best performance.

    1. Identify a position on the helmet to adhere the metal mounting bracket.

    2. Clean the identified surface area with alcohol.

    3. Peel off the double sided tape protective film.

    4. Carefully place the metal mounting bracket onto the position identified in step 1, making sure that the bracket is installed with the metal prong facing down.

    5. Apply slight pressure onto the metal mounting bracket to ensure it is firmly secured. (Make sure that the majority of the adhesive is in contact with your helmet for best results)

    Please make sure the speaker connection is fully inserted into the controller unit.

    This is done by pushing the speaker USB head into the control unit until you can no longer see the three ribs on the speaker USB plug. This ensures a full audio connection and a weatherproof seal.

  • 22. The sound is bad through my GPS, what should I do?
     

    The GPS may default to HFP for streaming music if you activate music playback manually from the GPS versus through your UCLEAR unit.To get the GPS device to stream through A2DP/AVRCP, please double tap the power button twice on your UCLEAR to trigger the A2DP profile first, and then start the music from the GPS.

    Note: We recommend that for best performances that a phone should be the main source for Phone calls, Music, GPS. Tethering connection can affect sound quality.

  • 23. I can hear fine, but the person calling me can't hear me?
     

    The main problem with callers not hearing your voice has to do with positioning of microphones. They must be installed symmetrically on both sides of your helmet, pointing forward and at the same angle.

    • If the positioning of the microphones are off 5% or more, voice quality will start to suffer.
    • If off 15% or more, your voice will sound muffled or distant.

  • 6. Which UCLEAR is right for me?
     

    The difference between UCLEAR products has to do with intercom range and the number of users, as well as mounting options that come in the package.

    So to determine which option is right for you, first determine how many people you want to connect with and what intercom range you need.

    The HBC100: series offers 2 person intercom, has a range of 30 feet and is meant for rider to rider to rider to passenger communication. This series is NOT firmware upgradable.

    The HBC100 PLUS: series offers 4 person intercom and has a range of .30 miles between users. This series is firmware upgradable.

    The HBC200 series: can connect 10 or more people and offers up to .40 miles between 10+ users. This series is firmware upgradable.

  • 7. My UClear unit won't turn on, charge, or update...
     

    This typically means the device is stuck in "update mode" (it thinks its plugged into a computer about to receive an update). To take the UClear out of update mode, all you need to do is connect it to the charger and press all three buttons down for 2-5 seconds. After you release the buttons, the light should turn on indicating that it is charging.

  • 8. My computer says the firmware update contains a virus!
     

    This is a common issue we see with programs such as Norton, AVG, etc. If your computer gives you a warning about the firmware having a virus, trojan, etc., then you will need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software until the update is finished. As long as you downloaded the update from www.ucleardigital.com/firmware then it is 100% safe!

    Once your speakers are plugged in, you will be able to hear the start up and shut down chirps. Even with blown speakers. IF you DO NOT hear anything, please double check and make sure the three lines(or ribs) on the USB speaker port are completely inserted into the control unit.

    After an update it is recommended to redo all your pairings on your Uclear Digital controllers. Some settings have changed with the update and to have everything working as ijntended, you will need to redo your pairings.

  • 4. My sound defaults to the iPhone speaker and not the UCLEAR Head Set.
     

    On your iPhone, Go to Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> Call Audio Routing, Change the setting to "Head Set". If this doesn't fix it, please delete all non-needed saved Bluetooth connections and reset your phone. Then re-pair to the iPhone to the UCLEAR Digital Unit.

  • 6. How do I pair my UCLEAR Digital unit with my GPS?
     

    Try these tips to get your GPS to pair with the UCLEAR unit:

    1. Shut down both the UCLEAR and GPS.

    2. Restart the devices and re-pair the UCLEAR to the GPS.

    3. Once paired, shutdown and restart both devices.You may also try deleting all the Bluetooth records from the GPS, restart then re-try pairing again.

    4. Finally, assume the GPS has been successfully paired to the phone and UCLEAR unit. If all these devices are powered up at the same time, it may cause confusion to the GPS. Your UCLEAR should be the last device to be turned on, then let it autoconnect to the GPS.

  • 7. How do I get better sound?
     

    Sound quality and voice activation features are dependent on the capabilities of you master pairing device (e.g. mobile phone). For the best sound quality Pair the UCLEAR Unit Directly to the source (Cell Phone is preferred). After Doing so adjust the volume levels of your master pairing device to 70% or until you achieve the best results.

  • 8. I can’t hear any bass, and the music is quiet or tingy. How can I fix this?
     

    When music sounds tinny, this is often due to streaming music through Hands Free Profile (HFP) instead of Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

    It may also be due to the quality of music that you may be using. Try to assure that the music quality is at 128/KBPS (CD quality) or better for best results.

    Note: Pandora/Spotify does not always stream CD quality music.

  • 9. How do I pair my UCLEAR Digital controller to my phone or device?
     

    The exact steps depend on your mobile phone or device, but generally, you should ensure the Bluetooth feature has been activated on your device.

    1. Turn your UCLEAR control unit on.
    2. Press the Up and Down buttons on your UCLEAR unit to enable pairing.
    3. You should see your UCLEAR come up on your device as an option and be able to select it on the device. If your device asks for a passcode, it is 0000.

  • 12. I just got my UCLEAR system - what should I do first?
     
    1. Your unit comes with some charge, BUT it is best to fully charge it upon taking it out of the box before use.
    2. Check the box for missing items and make sure all included items are accounted for. If items are missing, please contact us at 855-248-9283.
    3. Visit ucleardigital.com/firmware to ensure your UCLEAR controller unit has the most up to date firmware to take advantage of feature enhancements. (Note this is not applicable to the HBC100 series.)
    4. Further, check your phone to ensure it is up to date with its own latest software.

  • 13. How do I install the UCLEAR controller unit onto my helmet?
     

    UCLEAR products come with a variety of options, and we also offer additional mounting accessories for purchase at UCLEARDigital.com. Options include a removable clip with a rubber grip that is secured on the helmet shell between the padding. The second, a more permanent option is a bracket with 3M double sided tape that is adhered to the outside of the helmet.

  • 14. How do I position the speakers in my helmet?
     

    The speakers can be positioned on either side of the cheek pads. If you have trouble hearing, you may want to bring the speaker closer to the ear. The microphones are able to pick up on your voice even if they are behind the padding of your helmet, as long as the fabric is breathable. Note that ABF technology will not transmit through solid, non-breathable materials such as plastic, metal and leather.

    For the best audio quality, the left and right microphones have to be installed symmetrically in your helmet and directly over your ear, with the microphones pointing out at the same angle. The microphones work in tandem, and if they are not aligned properly they will not pick up on your voice as intended by our system.

  • 15. How can I set the volume on my UCLEAR controller unit?
     

    You can set the volume by pushing the up/down buttons to increase/decrease the volume. You must push and release for each incremental change in volume. When the volume level is set, the controller unit will store that volume setting, so the next time the device is connected it will automatically start at that associated volume level.

    UCLEAR also uses Automatic Speaker Loudness for communication. This feature increases the volume depending on the environment noise level. However, you can still adjust the volume manually.

  • 16. How do I correctly install the permanent helmet mount?
     

    *The helmet mount is best installed at room temperature. Please let the adhesive set for 5 minutes after installation for best performance.

    1. Identify a position on the helmet to adhere the metal mounting bracket.

    2. Clean the identified surface area with alcohol.

    3. Peel off the double sided tape protective film.

    4. Carefully place the metal mounting bracket onto the position identified in step 1, making sure that the bracket is installed with the metal prong facing down.

    5. Apply slight pressure onto the metal mounting bracket to ensure it is firmly secured. (Make sure that the majority of the adhesive is in contact with your helmet for best results)

  • 17. How do I make sure my unit is protected against weather?
     

    Please make sure the speaker connection is fully inserted into the controller unit.

    This is done by pushing the speaker USB head into the control unit until you can no longer see the three ribs on the speaker USB plug. This ensures a full audio connection and a weatherproof seal.

    UCLEAR Digital controller units have the following priorities:

    1.Phone
    2.Intercom
    3.Music

    For example, if a call comes in while listening to music, the call will take priority. When the call is terminated, the music will automatically come back on. You can switch from music to intercom or vice versa.

    Note: For best results, it is recommended to try to use your phone as a main connection for Phone calls, Music and GPS functions.

  • 27. What affects the wind noise suppression?
     

    Air pressure affects sound waves, so how your helmet fits will affect the performance, as will the presence or absence of a bike windshield. Well fitting, full faced helmets will always enhance performance.

    Experiment with directional placement of speakers to achieve ideal sound (Note, both speakers must always be facing in the same direction and symmetrical to each other for best sound).

    No, after intercom is started it will not auto timeout. You need to terminate it manually. However, the unit will auto power off in two hours if intercom and all other Bluetooth devices are disconnected.

    If intercom has not been in use before, the unit will auto power off in 10 minutes if all Bluetooth devices are disconnected.

  • 31. If I am in intercom mode when I power down, will UCLEAR remain in intercom mode when powered back up?
     

    Intercom will not stay connected one the unit is powered off.

    Once the UCLEAR controller unit is powered back on, you will need to press and hold the up button for two seconds to engage the intercom mode once again.

  • 33. Is private intercom possible with all members of a riding group using UCLEAR?
     

    Private intercom is currently only available to the HBC200 series and AMP series.

    Private intercom can only work with the user directly connected to you. For example, you have A, B, C, D connected, AB and CD can have private intercom but AC or AD cannot. See your manual for more detail.

  • 34. How do I activate voice commands or hands free answering?
     

    You can pick up calls hands free by saying “hello” or “pick up”.

    To utilize more advanced voice features, it depends on the capabilities of your paired device. For example, if you have voice activation software (i.e. Siri, Google now, Nuance, Dragon or Vlingo) on your device, you can activate these by pressing the "Answer" and "Down" buttons on your UCLEAR control unit.

    You can install UCLEAR Digital products on just about any helmet (Full face, open face, modular or 1/2 helmets). As long there is space for the speakers or ear buds. In the case of fuller helmets, there should be a cutout, and in the case of half helmets, we offer an insert that wraps around the straps.

    *UCLEAR Digital does NOT recommend modifying your helmet.

    Whatever your helmet type, it’s through Adaptive Beam Forming technology that UCLEAR is able to suppress environment noise such as wind, engine and street noise, while picking up on your voice. Boomless is just better!

  • 39. The sound is bad through my GPS, what should I do?
     

    The GPS may default to HFP for streaming music if you activate music playback manually from the GPS versus through your UCLEAR unit.To get the GPS device to stream through A2DP/AVRCP, please double tap the power button twice on your UCLEAR to trigger the A2DP profile first, and then start the music from the GPS.

    Note: We recommend that for best performances that a phone should be the main source for Phone calls, Music, GPS. Tethering connection can affect sound quality.

  • 46. I can hear fine, but the person calling me can't hear me?
     

    The main problem with callers not hearing your voice has to do with positioning of microphones. They must be installed symmetrically on both sides of your helmet, pointing forward and at the same angle.

    • If the positioning of the microphones are off 5% or more, voice quality will start to suffer.
    • If off 15% or more, your voice will sound muffled or distant.

    1. The HBC100 can only connect to another HBC100.

  • 48. I received my new AMP system, and no sound is coming through the speakers..
     

    If you are not receiving any sound from the speakers when they are plugged in, the speaker plug has not made a fully seated connection with the controller. When looking at the speaker plug, you will notice there are 3 "ribs" on the speaker plug. Please ensure that all 3 ribs on the speaker plug are fully inserted inside the controller. None of the ribs should be visible from any side of the controller (including the underside of the controller). Once the speakers are fully inserted, turn the controller on/off and listen for the startup "beeps" that come through the speakers.

    Note: A little force may be required as the rubber on the speaker plug is stiff from the factory. The reason for this is because the seated connection makes a weather resistant seal so no moisture can get inside the controller. Over time, the speaker plug will be easier to insert while still keeping out all forms of moisture.

    The red dot on the microphones indicates the "receiving" side of the microphone. The red dot should be the side that faces the inside of the helmet & towards your mouth.

  • 52. My controllers won't go into music sharing mode
     

    First, make sure you either have the HBC200, HBC200 HD, AMP Plus, or AMP Pro model as this feature is only available on those models. You also need to make sure the controllers are paired for intercom beforehand, and that unit #1 is paired to a cellphone/device for music.

    The instructions state that in order to enter music sharing pairing mode, you need to double-tap the "power" and either the down or up buttons together (depending on which controller it is; #1 or #2 respectively). However, sometimes pressing these buttons twice does not get recognized by the controller. Instead, try pressing or "spamming" the correct combination of buttons 5-10 times in quick succession, or until the light starts flashing blue & red. Once the light is flashing blue & red on both controllers, they will automatically pair for music sharing.
